Fly Fishing Report for the Missouri River: July 4th

The Missouri River has finally received the flushing that it desperately needed. Expect some great dry fly fishing later this season.

The Missouri is running clear! For now deep nymphing with lots of weight is productive. Stripping streamers can also produce some large fish. Caddis, PMDs and even Callibaitis are hatching up and down the river.. Look for rising fish in the slack water and seams on overcast days.

11.800 is still a lot of water to try and wade fish. However you can probably find some spots. USE CAUTION! Your best bet is to go with a guide that knows the river...the drops, shallow flats, edges and tail outs will produce trout.

It is still tarpon season here in the Florida Keys. The numbers are definitely dwindling as the tarpon migrate up the coast. No big schools moving ocean side any more. But some singles and small schools. We are still getting shots at a ton of fish (literally) a day!

The last two weeks have been cloudy, which makes for some tough sight fishing conditions. Cloud cover makes for some great dry fly action on the Missouri.

I have a feeling I will be wishing for clouds in a week instead of cursing clouds....
